DIY Washi Tape and Recycled Cardboard Earrings!
These earrings were quick, easy and fun to make.
- A piece of corrugated cardboard
- Washi Tape
- Fish Hook Earring Wires (Michaels, Jewelry supply etc.)
- Paint pens or Markers
- Tool for putting a small hole through cardboard (I used a hand crank craft drill)
- Mod podge or other sealant
1.Take a strip of Washi Tape and adhere to the cardboard.
Repeat with another strip of Washi Tape (same design).
2.Take your scissors and carefully cut your strips of Washi Taped cardboard out. You should have two pieces. Flip pieces of cardboard over and place a strip of the same Washi Tape design on the backside of each. Be sure to trim any excess Washi Tape off.
3.For round earrings I used the bottom of a small paint bottle to trace a circle on the cardboard. I cut out the circle and covered both sides with Washi Tape as shown in pictures below. (Make triangles, squares etc.)
4.Once your cardboard shapes are cut out and covered on both sides, use a marker or paint pen (color of choice) to outline the earrings. Make sure to do this on both sides. I used a gold leaf paint pen to outline my earrings.
5.When marker is dry, put a thin layer of protective sealant on each side of earrings. Let dry.
6.Place a small hole through each earring.
7.Attach fish hook earring wire through hole. *you will need a small pair of pliers to open loop on wires, and for closing once placed in the hole of the earring.
Use this technique to make pendants.
Make themed earrings and pendants using holiday themed Washi Tape.
